Dr. Austin Chiang
DPT, CrossFit L2 Coach
Austin Chiang is a North Carolina native and the owner of Beyond Movement Performance and Physio in Downtown Clayton. He earned his degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Georgia, then completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at High Point University, becoming licensed in July 2020.
Austin holds specialty credentials that set him apart: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Clinical Management of the Fitness Athlete (CMFA), and CrossFit Level 2 Coach. He currently coaches at CrossFit Clayton, which means he trains the same athletes he treats — and understands exactly what it takes to perform at a high level.
His mission is to bridge the gap between physical therapy, strength and conditioning, and functional fitness — so active adults can move and perform without limits. In April 2024, Austin and his wife Abby opened Beyond Movement to bring that vision to Downtown Clayton.

How much does physical therapy cost?
The initial evaluation is $200 and includes a full movement assessment and individualized plan of care. Follow-up sessions are $170–$200 depending on your plan. No insurance required — HSA and FSA cards accepted.
Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?
No referral is required. North Carolina is a direct-access state, which means you can schedule an evaluation with Beyond Movement without a physician's order. Start with a free consultation and go from there.
Can I keep training while doing physical therapy?
In most cases, yes. We'll assess what your body can handle and build your plan around your training — not around stopping it. The goal is to keep you moving as much as safely possible while your body heals and rebuilds.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your first appointment is a 60-minute 1-on-1 evaluation. We'll assess how your body moves, identify what's limiting your performance or causing pain, and build an individualized plan of care before you leave.
Do you accept insurance?
Beyond Movement is a cash-based practice and does not bill insurance directly. You pay at the time of service — no claims, no denials, no limits on your plan of care. Superbills are available if you'd like to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
